asyla ten holt

Asyla ten Holt, born in Curaçao, has lived in the Netherlands and Bonaire and now resides in Bandabou, Curaçao. Founder of the Funark Foundation, she coaches children in the arts. Educated at Kunstschool Eindhoven and Beeldende Vorming in Tilburg, Asyla further honed her skills in portrait painting at the Art Students League in Manhattan, creative writing in Rhode Island, and textile techniques and silk screen printing in the Netherlands and Suriname.

Her work explores historical heritage, portraying cultural and traditional performances within Black society with humor and depth. She uses quilting-inspired techniques, print collages, acrylics, and slogans to raise awareness of prosperity, transformation, and humor, blending past and future themes. Her portfolio also includes digital photography, seasonal art styles, and videos.

Committed to post-colonial cultural evolution, Asyla promotes change through a "sustainable living art garden," meditation, and breathing exercises inspired by Eastern philosophy. Her prose addresses social issues with clarity and relevance. She maintains connections in the Netherlands, Germany, the USA, Suriname, and the Caribbean.

Asyla reflects on 45 years of transformative art while seeking funding opportunities. Watch her story here https://youtu.be/GgeBe9PpoMM?si=7KfHrROD9Bq4oqj8.
